Toby Wilson Waterworth (BSc.Econ. ACA) - Chairman


Toby is a Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience in developing and funding healthcare related businesses and groups. In 1992 he was involved in UK merger and acquisition activity for Robannic NV, and in 1994 he joined Chiroscience Group plc and was involved in its development and acquisitions prior to its sale to Celltech plc. He joined AIM listed Alizyme plc in 1996, was involved in raising £35 million over a five year period, and oversaw its admission to the Official List on the London Stock Exchange at a value of £200 million. Since then he has been involved in the start-up, acquisition, development and funding of a number of businesses in the healthcare sector, including Atlantic Healthcare, Novexin, Astron Clinica, HD Clinical and AIM listed Lipoxen plc. Toby is also a Global Dealmaker in healthcare and advisor to the British Government.

 
 
David R Hampton, PhD MPhil -  President

Dave is a biomedical research scientist and entrepreneur with global experience in medical device innovation and new business development. He created the first commercial quantitative EEG and brainmapping systems for neurology and psychiatry at Cadwell Laboratories, then joined Physio-Control to develop systems that optimize treatment of patients suffering cardiac emergencies.  He was Research Director for Medtronic ERS in Seattle, and Emerging Programs Director for Medtronic SQDM in The Netherlands.  He is a founder of CamStent (UK: Biofilm-resistant coatings), BioMRC (NL: Medical technology partnership), and Stone Bridge Biomedical (NL: Remote patient monitoring systems).  Dave leads the Medical Diagnostics and Devices course at the University of Cambridge (UK), and is a Medtronic Bakken Fellow, a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a Fellow of the AIMBE.

 
Clare Twemlow (BSc. Hons, ACA) – Secretary / Chief Financial Officer


Clare is a Chartered Accountant with particular experience in working with high growth companies. She qualified with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she was responsible for auditing clients in their 'growing business' group.  In 2004 she joined the British Racing School as its Finance Director overseeing finance and business development during a period of notable expansion. Since 2007 Clare has worked with a number of start up and growing companies including Judge Business School Executive Education Ltd, HD Clinical Ltd and Atlantic Healthcare Ltd, where she has been involved in fundraising, restructuring and financial management.

 
Gerhard Symons (MA. MPhil) – Non-executive Director 

Gerhard  is a doctoral researcher in the Health Management Group at Imperial College Business School, London, following post-graduate studies at UCL and Cambridge. He is on the advisory board of Pharmaceutical Executive Europe and has published over 30 articles in the biopharmaceutical industry press.

 
 
Prof. Charles J.M. Stirling, FRS – Scientific Advisor 
Charles is a Professor of The Surface Chemistry Laboratory at The University of Sheffield.  His research interests include formation and reactivity of thin films of polyfunctional molecules, molecular self assembly, the ability to order absorbed molecules, and reactivity in ordered and disordered systems. He also specialises in the application of very thin films of calixarenes in surface treatments.
 
 
 
Dr. Nick H Williams – Scientific Advisor

A senior lecturer of The Surface Chemistry Laboratory at The  University of Sheffield, Nick's research interests include design, synthesis and systematic study of organic molecules. At the molecular level, designing organic molecules with key structural features, synthesizing them, and assessing their properties, including calixarene-like molecules that are able to modify the properties of surfaces, are his specialism.
