CamStent’s unique polymer coating resists attachment adhesion of platelets that are the cause of clots and sudden death events in patients receiving drug-eluting stents.
Late Stent Thrombosis
Every day, thousands of people suffer heart attacks caused by underlying coronary artery disease. The condition can be corrected by balloon angioplasty, followed by placement of a wire-mesh stent to hold the artery open. However cellular overgrowth and possible thrombus formation are a constant danger that can reocclude the artery. Drug-eluting stents attack the consequences, but do not directly address the underlying stenotic and thrombotic processes.
A non-stick stent coating
Camstent's solution to the problems of foreign body reaction and irritation, leading to excessive inflammation, and subsequent thrombus formation, is based on a polymer substrate that substitutes for the coating currently used in drug-eluting stents. This version of the polymer is both oleophobic and hydrophobic, able to resist adhesion platelets and protein factors involved in clotting and subsequent thrombus formation.‘Non-stick stents’, based on our proprietary coating, have five major advantages over current formulations because they are:
Biologically inert: they don't exacerbate inflammation or carry risk of side-effects
Durable: they remain part of stent surface, effective for the duration of the stent's life
Thin-Film: their smooth coating decreases turbulence caused by surface roughness;a factor which has been implicated in coronary thrombosis.
Non-pharmacologic: they will not incur any drug-drug interactions with immunosuppressants already coupled to the stent. They don't require control of elution rates, control of characterisation or testing for drug stability, availability, release, or degradation.
Localized effect: they can be applied preferentially to the luminal side of the stent, facing the blood stream, while the endothelial side can still be coated with a conventional drug-eluting combination, achieving an optimal combination of anti-stenotic and anti-thrombotic properties.
